Press Pause
Find Balance
Alexandra Topp
Founder and Counsellor, The Pause Button
I've always been fascinated by how the human mind works — what drives our thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. What makes us who we are. That natural curiosity, along with a strong desire to help others, is what led me to become a counsellor. Having personally navigated years of infertility struggles, including numerous rounds of IVF and experiences of pregnancy loss, and now balancing the responsibilities of parenthood and professional life, I understand how overwhelming life’s challenges can be.
I’ve learned firsthand the power of slowing down and creating space to reconnect with what truly matters. My own journey taught me how to press pause—on burnout, on overthinking and on the constant push to keep going—and it’s this experience that now shapes my approach to counselling. I’m passionate about helping others step back, reflect and move forward with clarity and purpose.
I hold a Diploma in Counselling and a degree majoring in Psychology from the University of Sydney. In my work as a counsellor, I use an integrative approach, incorporating techniques from cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), solution focused therapy (SFT), mindfulness practices, and more, to tailor treatment plans that meet each client's unique needs.
At the heart of my work is a simple goal: to create a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space where you can explore what’s going on for you, build self-awareness and take steps towards personal growth.
I look forward to helping you press pause, find balance and make space for what comes next.
